More than 700,000 New Zealanders live with asthma or some form of respiratory disease.

As experts in home air quality, it made perfect sense for HRV to become a Friend of the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation. We both believe that breathing clean, dry air is important to our health – like eating good food and drinking clean water... it’s a natural fit!

ARFNZ Chief Executive Letitia Harding agrees. “Damp, cold homes aren’t the only reason people suffer from asthma and other respiratory conditions, but they’re a major contributor. We are thrilled to welcome HRV to our family of sponsors in the Friends of the Foundation programme.

The Foundation is very much looking forward to working closely with the HRV team in what will be an exciting year ahead, as we continue on our mission to reduce respiratory related hospitalisations by 20% by 2025.”

So what can you do about it and how can HRV help?

Job one is to reduce moisture in your home. This is most obvious in the winter... if you wake up to condensation on your windows, you’ve got a moisture issue and your family is breathing damp air. Damp air also makes it easier for mould to grow on your walls, ceiling and furniture... not good!

Here are some easy ways to reduce the moisture levels in your home:

Reducing moisture is one way to help family members with asthma and other respiratory conditions. Cleaning the air you breathe is another.

HRV home ventilation features high-performance filters with FilterLayr™ technology to reduce mould spores, dust, pollen and other common allergens from the air you breathe before it enters your home. Think of it as a protective facemask, but for your whole home!

If you already have an HRV system in your home, it’s important that you replace the filter regularly to make sure it’s operating at peak performance. If the “Filter” light on your control panel is flashing or you’re not sure when yours was last replaced, please get in touch and we’ll arrange a service visit for you.

Asthma and other respiratory conditions are a reality for hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders. Reducing moisture and contaminants in the air your family breathes won’t help everyone, but it will make a difference in many cases. We’re proud to be a Friend of the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation and would love to talk to you about what we can do for your home.
